Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important official said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
